A 53-year-old woman appeared at the Verulam Magistrates’ Court yesterday for possession of drugs after she was found with cocaine and heroin at the King Shaka International Airport on Monday.
Police said the woman was arrested after two parcels of cocaine and heroin were found in her luggage.
She had reportedly arrived at the airport from Brazil.
The drugs are estimated to have a street value of R1 Million.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the woman’s arrest.
“By intercepting these drug shipments at our borders, we are ensuring that we are limiting the use of illegal drugs in this province throughout this festive season and beyond,” Ngobeni said.
In a separate incident, three men were arrested at King Shaka after they were found in possession of cocaine earlier this month.
A suspect was reportedly found with 1.14kg of cocaine – valued at an estimated R400 000 – hidden inside roll-on and shampoo bottles in his luggage.
