To celebrate the launch of the latest issue of ‘The Edit’, a Sunday Times magazine, Aspasia Karras recently gave talks about the latest Autumn/Winter fashion trends at Sandton City’s Diamond Walk.
Here are five of the top trends you need to know about this chilly season:
1) BACK TO WOODSTOCK
This trend reflects the bygone era of the ’70s, back to a time of folksy, maxi dresses in print overload, paired with patchwork, suede and fringing.
Get the look: Don’t be afraid to layer and mix different textures together in one look.
2) FABULOUS FAUX
Faux fur has had a firm footing in the fashion industry since the ’70s, but this season your coat needs to make an even bigger statement. Don’t shy away from bold and brightly coloured faux furs as seen as Louis Vuitton and Roksanda.
Get the look: Update 1970s-style dressing with a mix of textured fabrics such as denim or suede, coupled with colourful, bold accents.
3) GEEK CHIC
The return of the nerd sees oversized glasses frames and prim blouses making a closet comeback.
Get the look: For idiosyncratic charm, throw in vintage accessories and bold prints.
Thick and cosy, shearling takes on a new form, keeping you warm and stylish at the same time.
Get the look: Play with proportions and mannish shapes in classic neutrals like black, cream and beige.
5) HIGH LINE
The polo neck is this winter’s staple and proved to be every designer’s go-to garment. Paired with almost everything, a high neckline was layered under everything from structured, tailored pieces to unexpected glittery party frocks.
Get the look: This season it’s all about layering the polo neck whether under a shirt or beneath a sleeveless jacket, or paired with a high-waist A-line skirt or flares as a reference to the widespread 70’s trend.
